Juicing – Lean and healthy
July 16, 2010 1 CommentJuicing is a fantastic way to strip body fat and improve your health. Raw nutrients from fresh fruit and vegetables on a daily basis will offer your body the fuel required to increase your energy levels, shift unwanted body fat and protect you against disease and infection.
I am a strong advocator of raw Juices first thing in the morning. There is no better way to start the day, a fresh juice filled with enzymes, minerals and vitamins will go a long way! Many of my client’s goals are based around reducing body fat and shape change. This is a great way to keep the calories low whilst providing your body with powerful nutrients which will have a positive effect on your metabolism and the burning of body fat!
Juicing, digestion and fat loss…
Many of us have a poor digestive track which limits our ability to absorb all the nutrients from the vegetables we eat. Bloating, wind and body fat accumulation around the stomach are all classic signs of a poor digestive track. You can do all the sit ups in the world, but without healthy digestion, that fat will not go anywhere!
You need the help of some raw nutrients and enzymes from vegetables and fruit to kick start your digestion. By boiling all your vegetables or not eating enough, you will reduce the amount of enzymes available to your body which will reduce the efficiency of your digestion. This is often the reason why people struggle to shift fat around their abdominals even though they exercise them regularly!
Green vegetables, chlorophyll and health…
Chlorophyll is “the green thing” in plants and is the phytochemical which makes plants green. But, it is also a very important proteinous compound that acts as our internal healer, cleanser, antiseptic, cell stimulator, rejuvenator and red blood cell builder, just as it is the “lifeblood” of a plant.
Green coloured vegetables are loaded with chlorophyll and will do wonders for many areas of our ongoing health aswell as helping us shed fat! Ideally, each juice you make should include some green vegetables for maximum results. The reported health benefits from chlorophyll consumption are undeniable. Taken consistently in sufficient amounts, here are some of the powerful remedial effects of this amazing substance:
- Increases blood count
- Detoxifies and cleansing
- Alleviates blood sugar problems
- Reduces or eliminates body odours
- Relieves gastric ulcers
- Greatly relieves respiratory troubles like asthma and sinuses
- Kills bacteria in wounds and speeds up healing
- Reduces inflammation pain
- Improves bowel functions
- Improves milk production in lactating mothers
- Soothes painful hemorrhoids
Recommended ingredients for fat loss and health…
With all this health and scientific research behind us, let’s look at the reality of making juices every morning and establish the reasons why some people never get off the ground with it. Quite simply, if your juicer is a nightmare to clean, I am not surprised it gets left in the corner of the kitchen looking sorry for itself for weeks on end!
We recommend this one…

Ingredients wise, here are some of our favourites:
- Carrots
- Beetroot
- Green beans
- Cucumber
- Broccoli
- Spinach
- Celery
- Lemons
- Ginger
- Limes
- Tomato
- Peppers
- Red grapes
- Apples
For those of you who want to be super healthy and recieve maximum chlorophyll, we suggest making your juices with mainly green ingredients (highlighted above). As you can imaging, the taste is not going to be great so topping up with sweeter ingredients like apples, grapes and carrots is a good idea. Ginger is a fantastic herb which aids the liver in de-toxing the bad type of oestrogen which invades our bodies and contributes to fat storage around the arms and bum area (for men and women).
If you are new to juicing, I recommend starting the day with a fresh juice first thing in the morning. The raw minerals and enzymes will give you a natural rise in energy aswell as all the health and fat loss benefits that go with it!
Other juice related hints and tips…
- Grind 1 or 2 whole lemons (skin included because this is where the majority of the vitamin c is stored) in your juicer and add to your water for the day. Lemons are fantastic for helping with digestion and help your liver get rid of toxins. Both of which will help your body shift more fat, increase your health and improve your physique.

Great blog, love the recommendations, will be trying some juicing! I have 2 questions that you may be able to help me with?
1. Do you know of any good books/websites where I could get some juice recipes?
2. What are your views on doing a juice detox as I am thinking of doing one for 3 days after a elatively ‘toxic’ couple of weeks!
