This short video clip from the legendary JC Santana shows us exactly how to maximise your power by pairing up specific exercises. In this short video clip below you see the man himself coaching two UFC athletes through a lower body power routine.

JC SANTANA LOWER BODY POWER TRAINING

Obviously these guys in the clip are some of the worlds top Mixed Martial Arts fighters so dont panic Odyssey clients, we certainely wont be starting you at this level. If you do want to improve your power, we will find you something which fits your physical capabilities.

There are a few things I wanted to bring up having seen this clip which are directly relavent to the Odyssey Way of training. Firstly, you can see how JC coaches the athletes from one exercise to another without a break. This widely used technique is called supersetting  and is an excellent way to make improvements in strength and power aswell as burning body fat. Anyone who trains with us will understand the benefits of this.

The first exercise is a heavy strength lift (a stiff leg dealift in this case) followed by explosive box jumps. The idea behind this is simple but very effective for developing power. The heavy lift followed by an explosive lift is the key here. The heavy lift (i.e the first exercise) stimulates/turns on your nervous system and basically prepares your muscle fibres to work explosively. Aswell as the obvious strength and power gains, this is also an excellent recipe for fat loss. We now know that using weights and explosive movements is a more effective way to burn fat. It is these principles inwhich we base our programmes on at Odyssey Fitness.

By completing an explosive jump straight after the heavy lift you will develop your nervous system which is in control of  your musuclar system. So if you want nicer looking muscles, the ability to run further and faster, an improved rate of fat loss or strength and power gains, these principles focussing on developing your nervous system are vital in guiding you towards your goals and beyond.

The main point I wanted to get across is this undeniable link between high intensity training like strength and power training and changing your body shape. At Odyssey Fitness we apply these basic principles to all of our clients programmes, whether you just want to lose weight or are training for a competitive sporting event, filling your programme with explosive exercises, strength training and circuits is the quickest way to achieve results.

The industry has moved well beyond doing endless miles of running in the quest to change your bodyshape. These scientific principles discussed within this article hopefully have given you food for thought about maximising your results by chosing the most worthwhile exercises.
