Strength and Performance

‘Gone are the days in which the only style of lifting weights was body building. At Odyssey Fitness, we guide our clients towards being functionally strong, powerful and athletic rather than big and bulky. It is no coincidence that we have many athletes on our books ranging from tri-athletes, martial artists and footballers.’

Preparing athletes is something we are very familiar with at Odyssey Fitness. The key to our success is the depth in our assessments and programme design. To create the perfect programme which guarantees improved performance, we must establish where the structural and muscular imbalances lie.

Our initial strength assessment dissects exactly which muscles are tight, weak and imbalanced. For optimum strength, power and endurance, it is imperative that these muscular imbalances are ironed out. The first phase of a strength and performance programme will consist of exercises designed to improve your structural and muscular balance.

This often includes strengthening of the lower back muscles, lengthening and strengthening of the hamstring muscles, activation of the glutes and core and increased stability of the shoulder girdle.

Whether you are aiming to run further and faster, are preparing for a strongman competition or simply enjoy being fit and strong, making sure your muscles are balanced and stable is step 1.

It is worth knowing that most sporting injuries are caused by muscular imbalances. Knee and back pain is often caused by weak core muscles and shoulder pain can be caused by a lack of stability within the rotator cuff muscles. All of these issues will be highlighted within an assessment with one of our specialist trainers.

Developing your strength, power and endurance using weight training is something which can only be mastered with time, education and experience. All members of the Odyssey training team have travelled and trained with the World’s leading strength training organisations. Some of which include The Institute of Human Performance, Poliquin Performance, NASM and ACSM.
