- Dalton shifts stubborn abdominal fat
I heard about Dave Fletcher’s reputation as a fat loss specialist through word of mouth. I approached him with the specific objective of reducing my body fat level (especially around my waist). I am pretty fit as I play tennis competitively and also do other exercise regularly. Whilst I paid careful attention to my sporting ...
At Odyssey Fitness, we have helped more people lose weight than any other health related goal. For successful and ongoing weight loss you need to address three key areas:
- NUTRITION
- EXERCISE
- HORMONE BALANCE
Each and every client of ours will be guided step by step through our system of addressing all three key areas!
Let’s start with food. We know that there are three main food groups (proteins, carbohydrates and fats) all of which play equally important roles in allowing our bodies to burn fat as a fuel, promote healthy living and allow us to have sufficient energy levels to perform everyday activities and exercise. The key with nutrition is to establish the correct balance of all three food groups for your body type. As a client of ours, we will guide you step by step towards a nutrition plan in accordance to your weight loss goals.
The table below shows you the outline of how we encourage our clients to eat on a daily basis. You will be advised as to which foods best fit each section of the table:
The next key area is exercise. We will establish which type of exercise best suits your body type best. Many people aiming to lose weight fall at the first hurdle by focussing all their attention on cardio. DonÕt get me wrong, cardiovascular exercise does have its place in a weight loss programme but by spending all of your time on it is not the best way forward! At Dave Fletcher personal training, we will teach you how to achieve maximum weight loss results by including weight training, circuit training and cardio into your programme!
Weight training will allow your body to burn more calories and create shape to your physique (this applies to both men and women). Your trainer will establish exactly which type of weight training will be of most benefit to help you achieve your weight loss goal. The main reasons that weight training promotes weight loss are that your muscles metabolise fat. If you keep your muscles happy by including some weight training in your programme, you will increase your bodyÕs ability to burn fat and lose weight quicker – it is as simple as that!
To conclude, the perfect weight loss programme will include cardio, circuits and weight training. Your trainer will decide the perfect mixture for your body type and your goals. Below shows an example of how using weight training promotes weight loss:
You can clearly see the difference in result here. The overall size of the body part is smaller in image 2! By increasing the size of the muscle (using weight training), the body fat will reduce, leaving you with a defined and lean body part!
Remember that muscle metabolises fat, by including weight training, you stimulate your muscles which increases your rate in which you burn body fat. This is the difference between image 1 and 2 and summarises why we include weight training with every weight loss client of ours!
The third and final section to our trio is Hormone Balance. Man, women, young or old, to achieve lasting weight loss, you must balance key hormones through nutrition, exercise and sometimes supplements. Your hormones have a direct influence on how efficient your body is at burning and storing fat. Different areas on your body will accumulate body fat based on specific hormonal imbalance.
Fat storage around the back of the arms and bum area is related to an imbalance in oestrogen and testosterone. Fat storage around the stomach and hips is related to an imbalance in insulin and cortisol.
To reduce body fat in these specific areas on your body, we need to establish where your hormonal imbalances lie based on where you store the majority of your body fat. We complete a BioSignature assessment with every new client of ours which provides us with your hormonal profile and the necessary tools to create the perfect exercise and nutrition programme for you!
